Woman jailed for letting disabled son starve to death

Red November 28th, 2007 No Comments

Only in America. Or at least, I’d like to think so. A woman accused of neglecting her severely disabled son and letting him starve to death was sentenced yesterday to nine years in prison. According to prosecutors, Angela Cheral Bernard, 34, of Rolando called 911 on Dec. 17, 2005, to report her son’s death. An autopsy on Dec. 30 revealed that the boy weighed 28 pounds and had skin ulcers with protruding bone. Brandon, her son, was born with cerebral

Moore’s mother obtained a tape from a security camera at the school. She says

Mayor of Vancouver, Sam Sullivan

I for one certainly didn’t, and I was shocked/amazed/inspired (yes, all three at once) to discover that one of the world’s most prominent cities, and a previous host of the Olympics and Paralympics, has a man at the helm who is in fact disabled! His name is Sam Sullivan, and he was elected the Mayor of Vancouver in 2005, after serving 12 years as a City Councillor. He is a quadriplegic after breaking his neck when he was aged just

Shocking treatment of disabled people in Serbia

Red November 16th, 2007 No Comments

Serbia might seem like another planet to most of us, but that comparison seems apt when you read about the recent atrocities being committed in the central European nation against thousands of disabled people. Reports of disabled adults and children being physically tied to beds and cribs for long periods of time, sometimes years, along with reports of filthy conditions within the institutions that are set up to ‘care for’ disabled people, are all part of a damning report released
