The Nelson District Court case heard that four of the house support workers who worked under Ericson said they saw her call him names including an “animal” and “inhuman”.
They testified she pulled the boy’s hair to subdue him and they had seen her lose control and lash out at the boy.
The workers spoke of a culture of fear where they risked their jobs if they spoke out. Ericson told them: “What goes on in the house stayed in the house”.
What’s fascinating is how little anyone will say about any of this. It’s almost like it’s too terrifying, too scary, too indicative of what, as a society, we allow to pass unchallenged.
