LTNZ’s “Side Airbags” ad – misleading or great acting?

I’m sure many of you have seen the latest ad from Land Transport New Zealand, promoting cars with side airbags as helping to prevent brain injury during a crash. What you might not have realised, however, is that the woman in the advertisement is actually an Australian actress. Admittedly, she is very convincing, but is it right that we have able-bodied people pretending to be disabled? Why couldn’t they use a Kiwi who had actually experienced brain injury? Check out the ad below, and let me know what you think!

Yea I kinda wondered if she actually had a brain injury or she was acting it. I think they should of gotten someone who had a brain injury for the ad.
I agree to a point but would a person with that severity of injury really be able to follow a script?.
Kia ora,
It is disappointing because it lessens the impact of the ad and could question other ad campaigns.
The Like Minds ads are real. Aubrey is a real person who experiences mental illness. I have met him. He is a bit of a hunk, oh if only I was 30 years younger and he was single. Enough of that!
I am sure there would be people out there is a head injury who could have done the ad. It would have been a real story and they could talk about the real impact of their injury.
Cheers

i agree that someone with a real brain injury could have done this… I work in rehab with people who have acquired brain injuries like this add is portraying and some of our clients would have been able to do this with a greater impact cos it would have been REAL. Sure they might not have got all the lines 100% correct but thats the point, brain injuries are really serious and affect your whole life.
a similar thing happened for NZ sign language week – they had people signing on the ad, but non of them were deaf or hearing impaired, and only two had anything to do with the community. As a non-signer, the ad is not that important to me, but the principle is still pretty much the same as the one mentioned here.
