8-year old disabled girl suffers epileptic fit, parking company fines her £100

Has the world gone totally mad? Given the recent lack of local disability news, I went looking overseas for titbits to fill the pages of this blog, and I found this disturbing story: an 8-year old girl has been fined £100 by the local Welsh parking company for exceeding the parking limit at a local cinema. Never mind the fact that, during the movie, the wee lass suffered a “massive fit”, and paramedics were called to the scene to give the girl medical attention, according to the parking company, rules are rules.

“We do sympathise and we do accept the fact that the young lady was taken ill at the cinema and paramedics were called out there.

“However, she wasn’t admitted to hospital.

“The point is, the car was in the car park for three hours and 54 minutes. She has exceeded the time allowed in the car park.”

And now they’re threatening legal action against the girl! What an absurd situation. I’ve weaseled out of parking fines for saying I got stuck in a toilet – this girl almost died! And yet some company wants their money, by crikey. If you can stomach it, read up on all the details by clicking here.
