As mentioned a couple of days ago, Snowplanet are officially launching their adaptive snowsports programme tomorrow, with the admirable aim of increasing the participation of disabled people in the many varieties of snowsports available. Stuff.co.nz reports:
The programme, an effort among Snowplanet, Disabled Snowsports New Zealand and local disability service organisations, gives disabled people the chance to experience snowsports at an easily accessible facility all year.
“Snowsports are one of the few sports that people with all degrees of disability can participate in and experience physical freedom with family and friends,” says Snowplanet adaptive snowsports programme manager Millie Clark.
“We enable people with physical, sensory and cognitive impairments to ski and board at a ski field. Barriers to participation are removed and support given to encourage active recreation,” she says.
This is awesome stuff, so make sure you head along to Snowplanet tomorrow, the opening ceremony starts at 11:30am and the indoor snow-dome itself is located at 91 Small Rd, Silverdale, as shown below:

Hi All, There is now a facebook group for Snowplanet Adaptive Ski Sports - SASS to broadcast events and opportunities that come up and a way to coordinate volunteers.
