I’m sure many of you have a passionate stance on the whole ACC vs. MOH funding conundrum, and why those who can prove “medical misadventure” was the cause of their disability (or, ironically, those who got drunk, crashed their car, and are now wheelchair users) are entitled to so much more funding than those who are simply disabled by illness or birth condition. Why is the gap so vast when the

Or at least, my headlines. A friend and I visited the cinemas, located adjacent to Auckland’s Aotea Square, last night to see the movie The Bucket List. I went and bought the tickets, two frozen cokes (a vital necessity!), and hurried toward the lift, as we were already 5 minutes late.

She had a poster on the back of her chair, advertising for Guide Dog Service volunteers, which she thinks may have led the attackers to believe she was collecting funds. Her brand new, $60,000 wheelchair was shoved around, and then the boys ripped the tilt mechanism off. “They had been drinking – I

Curtis says that he was down in Wellington over New Years, and stumbled across a “wee gem” of an accessible hotel, and gives it a solid rating. The Comfort Hotel in Cuba St was primo! It’s a heritage building that used to be the old Trekkers Backpackers. Newly renovated, its classy. We paid $89 a night, the room was

Research undertaken by the disability support service found that 55 per cent of people using mobility parking spaces with the existing yellow markings were doing so illegally. After being painted blue with yellow markings, the misuse dropped to 51 per cent after three months and 42 per cent after six months, according to Research NZ, which monitored the parks. During the

Not to make light of such situations, but it must be said that being the victim of a cluster bomb is far from a pleasant scenario. But that is, unfortunately, what happened to young Afghani refugee Soraj Habib, when he picked up what he thought was a

Thankfully, our individual trips seem to have at least one thing in common – the overriding enjoyment factor! It really is a stunning voyage, and a must for anyone travelling New Zealand’s stunning coastline. The picture on the left is taken from NZ On
