Mobility Assistance Dogs Trust inaugural charity golf tournament

If you haven’t heard of them already, the Mobility Assistance Dogs Trust is a fantastic non-profit organisation that provides Mobility Dogs for those with physical disabilities, with the aim to “increase the independence, confidence and self-esteem of mobility impaired individuals.” The Mobility Dogs team receive no government funding whatsoever, and so rely solely on corporate and public support to continue providing their invaluable services, which have such a profound impact on the lives of the recipients of one of these

NZ Paralympian wins skiing cup for first time

Paralympian New Zealand ski racer Adam Hall, of Outram, has won gold in Utah to claim the Huntsman Cup. He took his seventh gold in a row, as part of the North American disabled alpine ski racing series. Hall had strong competition from the United States team and other international skiers, racing giant slalom and slalom courses at the 21st annual Huntsman Cup at Park City Mountain Resort. Perhaps it’s old hat now, considering it’s been more than 400 days since the Ministry of Health agreed to replace the ageing wheelchair stair-lift that was forcing Arthur and Barbara Broomes’ lives apart, but I’d like to join the growing public cry to hurry up and fix this ghastly situation! Aussie baby born with cerebral palsy after mother takes drugs

An Australian woman who was part of a trial for a new labour induction drug has been awarded A$886,000 after her child was born with cerebral palsy. The child’s mother, Kimberley Reid, sued the hospital after her son, Joshua, was born severely disabled, and claimed she was told that misoprostol was the only available drug for induction at the time and that she was not informed of the associated risks.
