User review: Shailer’s Bed & Breakfast, Hamilton
Thanks to Caz for this fantastic review!
My partner and I went to visit our friends Charlie and Dianna Shailer who run Shailer’s Bed & Breakfast yesterday for a reunion of a special group we used to attend, while there I decided to do research on the accessibility of the house so I took my wheelchair along for the job.
When you first arrive you would think there is no way in hell for a wheelchair to enter as there are steps but if you follow the path going round the side of the garage you will be surprised to discover this place is a wheelchair user’s dream, and there is a ramp leading inside the back door. Once inside (however this can be difficult as you can only just get inside) you will find the house is very large, open plan, and sits on a 120 acre farm with beautiful views.
Their accessible bathroom goes beyond the limits, unlike most I have seen I can do an easy turning circle as it has plenty of space, and for once the mirror is at a wheelchair users height! They do have a stool which they keep stored for those who need it in the shower. Spacious rooms and a nice outdoor setting, the hosts do tours of their farm and walks round Mt Pirongia (have not checked them on accessibility as of yet). All in all, a recommended stay! Make sure you click here for more pictures of the accommodation!
