In what’s being hailed as a “landmark victory” for disabled Canadians, domestic Canadian airlines will no longer be able to charge an extra fare for a disabled person’s caregiver. That means it effectively puts an end to the one-person-one-fare policy, and enables disabled people to travel by plane without having to pay extra for a support person to go with them, if they need one. It’s important to make this distinction - “if they need one” - as this rule only applies if the disabled individual requires assistance onboard, for example with things like eating or toileting, not simply transferring to their seat.
But all the same, I think this is a fantastic idea served up by the Canadian Govt, and no doubt supported by all the disabled activists in Canada. If only Auntie Helen could be as thoughtful, huh?!

I think this is great! I’m a totaly blind quad, and airlines wont let me fly alone, so if I want to fly anywhere it ends up costing double! I did notice in the link though that they talked mostly about very obese people and had very little thought about people who have disabilities.

im person with learning disabilties mentaly chalange, i m in a wheel chair however i was wondering of care giver or support person would be cover for these tpye of disabilties as well, i no when i fly before it would be nice to have support with me that was cover ,

I agree with Kimberley,it doesn’t mention people with other disabilities,wheelchair or other,would be interesting to find out about other,apart from obese.I think that people who are “disabled” due to injury or illness,meaning wheelchair /other,compared with “obese” meaning people who don’t look after themselves,must be clarified. I think that if they give the concession to “obese” ( meaning ,just people who haven’t looked after themselves) i think is rediculous ,and stupid,well hello!!!.Wake up.
