“We’ve got enough mobility parks” - Whangarei District Council

December 19th, 2007 · No Comments

A quick squizz over at the Tiaho Trust website reveals quite a disturbing article focussing on the Whangarei City Council, who claim they already have enough mobility parks and are worried that any extra might exclude members of the “general public”, implying that disabled people are not part of the general public?!

In fact, deputy mayor Kahu Sutherland admits to having “a problem with disability carparks”, which is particularly ironic given Northland’s high representation in adult obesity, which can lead to a restriction of mobility, and thus a qualification for a mobility parking space! Oh the irony. Read Tiaho’s full assessment, or head on over to the Whangarei Leader’s website and read the original article.
