Review: Henderson Transport Centre

December 2nd, 2007 · 1 Comment

New Waitakere City Council BuildingsWow! That’s what I thought when I stumbled across Henderson’s brand new transport centre and council buildings the other day. I’m not often in West Auckland so I thought I might as well take some snaps. To check out the pictures now, click through to go the gallery section! Anyway as you can see from the picture on the left, (click on it to get a larger version) the new Waitakere City Council buildings are very United Nations-esque, with all the flags out front and all! Very nice and modern, I thought.

Nice kerb in HendersonThe surroundings are nice too; plenty of greeny foliage, disabled parks, and nicely crafted curb cuts. Always a priority ;) The architecture is very funky and modern, there’s an Esquires on-site (I’m willing to vouch for their paninis), along with braille on all the lift buttons (see video below). All in all, given West Auckland’s reputation for being a bit slack on the subject of modern aesthetics, this new facility impressed instantly.

Let’s not forget, of course, that it’s also a train station! However it was a bit confusing figuring out how to get from the bottom of the huge flight of stairs to the actual station, so I took the liberty of filming a walkthrough video, make sure you check it out below, and don’t forget to head over to the gallery and check out all the photos!
