It’s true, I said it: I’m in love with a cafe.
Anywhere that succeeds in being funky and arty, without the generally associated pretentiousness, as well as serving great coffee and eggs benedict, whilst being wheelchair-friendly, earns the big tick in my book.
‘Roasted’, as it is affectionately known, is situated in the heart of the Kingsland shops; 487 New North Road, to be exact. It’s a cute little orange place with tables and chairs outside, directly opposite the hulking bastion of masculinity, The Kingslander. It’s even walking/wheeling distance from my house, which earns it double points as far as I’m concerned. They have live music on Thursday nights, and the manager Sean is one of the nicest blokes out.
The coffee is always fantastic, the cakes are varied and intriguing, and the food is quite overwhelmingly vegetarian (don’t worry, they do cook meat :P). And the best part is that nestled out the back is a spacious and accommodating disabled bathroom. In fact there are two bathrooms, just in case the spastic in question is taking too long. The mirror is a little high on the wall, so I can’t actually check myself out, but I spend far too long looking at the great artwork on the walls anyway.
Check it out yall!
THE LOWDOWN
- No stairs
- 1 Disabled bathroom, although mirror is positioned quite high. Handrail, accessible hand basin. Very clean.
- Can be crowded if busy, but staff are friendly and helpful and more than happy to move stuff out of the way
- Counter at a good height, don’t forget to grab a buy-10-get-one-free card
- Chess board!
- Overall accessibility rating: 4 / 5
